‘Wildscapes’ is an escape into the calming serenity of the African jungle. Plumarii’s founder, Nivedita Mathur, has grown up visiting the many national parks and sanctuaries of India. During several safaris with her family, she has come to love wildlife, and this fondness only grew during a vacation to Kenya.
Spread across two volumes, the Wildscapes collection is inspired by an array of memorable experiences – from watching cheetahs, zebras, lions and giraffes in their natural habitats, to interacting with the Maasai tribe. Spots, stripes and scenic tapestries adorn these thoughtfully designed garments. The quintessential symbol of the African landscape – the iconic acacia tree – becomes a highlight on a dress, while the sprightly yellow of the savannah grassland lends itself in unique ways to other garments.
In our effort to push our boundaries, we have transformed old paintings of wild flowers and moths into colourful embroidered vistas, and converted photographs of African animals, taken in Kenya, into gorgeous clothing hand embroidered over several weeks.
